Dr. Nirmal Patil is an accomplished Orthopedic Minimal Invasive Spine surgeon affiliated with Chetna Hospital. He completed his MBBS from Seth G.S Medical College and KEM Hospital, Mumbai, in 2011, followed by an internship at the same institution in 2012. Dr. Patil pursued his post-graduation MS at Seth G.S Medical College and KEM Hospital, Mumbai, from July 2013 to July 2016. During this period, he actively contributed to teaching undergraduates, nursing, and allied health professionals, and demonstrated his expertise by handling outpatient clinics, routine, and emergency orthopedic surgeries. Following his post-graduation, Dr. Patil served as a Registrar at Chetna Hospital, Chinchwad, Pune, gaining experience in outpatient clinics, routine and emergency orthopedic surgeries, including arthroplasty and spine surgeries.
His career continued to evolve as he took on the role of Specialist Medical Officer at TNMC and BYL Medical College and Nair Hospital, Mumbai, from October 2016 to October 2017. In this capacity, he continued teaching, managed outpatient clinics, and performed independent orthopedic, arthroplasty, and spine surgeries. Dr. Patil returned to Chetna Hospital as a Registrar from October 2017 to December 2017, further honing his skills in outpatient clinics, routine and emergency orthopedic surgeries.
Continuing his pursuit of knowledge, Dr. Patil achieved a DNB in Orthopedics on 17th November 2017. He then embarked on an international fellowship as a SICOT/Alexandria Fellow from January 2018 to June 2018 at the Spine Department of El-Hadra Orthopedic and Traumatology Centre in Egypt. This experience included assisting and performing supervised surgical steps in spine surgery, participating in outpatient clinics, routine and emergency operating theaters, attending ward rounds, and engaging in research work.
In July 2018, he passed the MRCS (ENG) Part A and B and undertook the ATLS student course, showcasing his commitment to professional development. Dr. Patil rejoined Chetna Hospital as a Registrar from July 2018 to September 2018, demonstrating his proficiency in outpatient clinics, routine and emergency orthopedic surgeries.
To further specialize in minimally invasive and thoracoscopic spine surgery, Dr. Patil pursued a Fellowship from September 2018 to December 2018 under Prof Heinreich Boehm at Zentraklinik, Bad Berka, Germany. Following this, he returned to Seth G.S Medical College and KEM Hospital as a Registrar from December 2018 to 31st January 2019, contributing to teaching, managing outpatient clinics, and performing independent orthopedic, arthroplasty, and spine surgeries.
His global journey continued as an APSS Medtronic Spine Fellow in Sapporo, Japan, from March 2019 to the current date, working under Prof Kuniyoshi Abumi. He also completed an AO SPINE FELLOWSHIP in June 2019 at Mumbai Scoliosis and Disc Replacement Centre, Bombay Hospital, assisting in minimally invasive spine surgery. Dr. Patil served as a Registrar in Trauma and Orthopedics at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells Hospital from July 2019 to February 2020, contributing to teaching, managing outpatient clinics, and performing independent orthopedic and arthroplasty surgeries.
In December 2019, he successfully passed the SICOT Orthopedic Diploma Exam. Dr. Patil then became a Spinal Fellow from February 2020 to September 18th, 2020, at the Department of Spinal Surgery, Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham, UK, participating in spine surgeries, outpatient clinics, routine and emergency operating theaters, ward rounds, and research work.
Continuing his pursuit of excellence, Dr. Patil completed a Euro Spine Fellowship in Minimal Invasive Spinal Surgery from September 2020 to December 2020 under Mr. Khai Lam at London Bridge Hospital, UK. Here, he focused on learning techniques of anterior and lateral lumbar spine surgeries (ALIF, XLIF, and disc arthroplasties). Currently, he serves as a Consultant Spine surgeon at Chetna Hospital, holding the position of Director of the hospital and contributing as a Consultant Spine surgeon.
